A favourable situation for employment

With an unemployment rate of 5.4% (ranked 5th nationally) in the fourth quarter of 2007, Haute-Savoie is among the most dynamic departments in terms of employment.

The Department has 196,850 private-sector employees as of 1 January 2007, among the following sectors :

Even though the number of industrial jobs is declining, it has been offset by the creation of service jobs. It is also worth noting that there was less of a decrease in the number of industry jobs in 2007 than in 2006.

According to a 2007 ASSEDIC survey on labour requirements, businesses are looking for employees in the following processions :

  • Hotel employees and supervisors (servers, etc.)
  • Cooks
  • Sociocultural sports and recreation leaders
  • Maintenance personnel
  • Qualified masons
  • Qualified mechanics (welders, assemblers, machinists, fitters, etc.)
  • Cashiers, self-service employees
  • Household employees, childcare providers
  • Secretaries, assistants
  • Qualified public works workers
