Each resort has managed to retain its village-like feel and its traditions while being resolutely modern. The more prestigious resorts –  Chamonix, Megève, Morzine, La Clusaz, St Gervais – welcome foreign customers with an upscale hotel industry.

The more family-style resorts – Les Carroz, les Contamines-Montjoie, Les Gets, les Houches, Châtel, Samoëns, Le Grand Bornand, Combloux  – and the more contemporary resorts – Flaine and Avoriaz – all offer high-quality ski areas.
